Argentinian champion Estudiantes secured its place in the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores with a 1-1 draw against Tolima in Colombia.

Eduardo Berizzo’s side consolidated second place in Group Seven with 10 points, while third-placed Tolima has five points with one game remaining and cannot go any further in the competition.

Estudiantes took the lead after 24 minutes with a Federico Fernandez header following a free-kick by Leandro Benitez, but Felix Noguera equalized with a penalty seven minutes later.

Estudiantes defender Leandro Desabato said: “This is what we’ve been looking for – qualification.

“After we scored, the match became more difficult due to some mistakes by us but we managed to control it in the second half and ended the game in good form.”

Brazilian giants Cruzeiro heads the group, and moved to 13 points with a 2-0 win at Paraguayan side Guarani.

Thiago Ribeiro opened the scoring after 17 minutes, and Paraguayan forward Jose Maria Ortigoza doubled the lead in second-half injury-time.

Reigning Libertadores champions Internacional crushed Bolivian opponents Wilstermann 3-0 in Porto Alegre.

Oscar put the Brazilian side ahead in the 18th minute before Andres D’Alessandro doubled the lead 12 minutes after the interval.

Wilstermann defender Lucas Fernandez was sent off after a heavy tackle on D’Alessandro in the 68th minute, and Ze Roberto made it 3-0 four minutes later.

Internacional moved three points clear of Ecuadorian side Emelec at the top of Group Six with its victory.
