Werder boss Thomas Schaaf is is confident of keeping hold of star duo Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker despite Premier League interest.
Manchester United are reportedly keen on Germany playmaker Ozil, while centre-back Mertesacker is rumoured to be interesting Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
The speculation regarding Ozil’s potential switch to United intensified after Sir Alex Ferguson was a surprise spectator at Craven Cottage on Saturday to watch Fulham take on Werder, shunning his side’s annual public training session at Old Trafford.
But afterwards boss Schaaf expressed his belief that the 21-year-old would still be at the Bundesliga outfit for the coming season.
He told Sky Sports News: "(I) can’t give you some new information, only that he is one player of Werder Bremen and he plays for Werder Bremen."
Asked if he thinks Ozil will be a Werder player on September 1, he replied: "Yes, I think so yes."
As regards Mertesacker, Schaaf said: "You know, now we are in the time of speculations.
"At the moment the (Premier) League doesn’t play so everybody is looking for some news and what could happen.
"So you can be sure Per Mertesacker will play for Werder Bremen and so its I think no speculation about it."
