Boy with terminal cancer receives over 40,000 Christmas cards from soccer fans

Soccer fans and supporters from around the world have stepped up to help make a young boy's Christmas unforgettable. Bradley Lowery is a terminally ill 5-year-old boy who also happens to be a massive Sunderland fan. After spending the day leading his heroes out to face Chelsea midweek, his inbox has been flooded with Christmas cards.

The Christmas card campaign for Lowery began prior to the match but has taken off since Lowery's appearance at the Stadium of Light. He received a whopping 28,000 cards on Thursday alone, according to the Belfast Telegraph.  Lowery, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013, marched his beloved Sunderland out and even scored a pre-match spot kick against the Premier League leaders.

The influx of cards has brought the total to over 40,000, per the Sunderland Echo, with support coming from as far as South Korea.

"We're inundated, inundated with presents," Lynn Murphy, Lowery's campaign manager for Red Dreams told the Echo. "Bradley's got his own sorting line in the post office in Hartlepool because of the amount of presents."

Lowery's fight is being documented on Facebook, with one post saying, "He has been very sleepy today but still had time to help open some of his cards and he is loving everything he is getting thank you so much for thinking of him at this hard time."
