Silvestre on brink of Bremen switch

French defender Mikael Silvestre is close to signing a two-year
contract at Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on a free transfer from
Arsenal.

The 33-year-old Silvestre, who has also played for Manchester
United and made 40 appearances for France, arrived at Bremen on
Monday after being released in the offseason by Arsenal.

Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf says Silvestre “is still hungry to
take on great challenges.”

Bremen finished third in the Bundesliga last season and advanced
to the Champions League group stage by eliminating Sampdoria last
week.
