FIFA released on Friday its report of the global transfer market and, this may come as a shock, but a ton of money has changed hands on transfers in the past year. (Yes, that was sarcasm.) Globally, transfers hit a new high both in the number of transfers (14,000) and the amount of money spent ($4.79 billion).
So who has been splashing the cash the most? Here are the top 15 countries by transfer spending, plus a look at how much their spending changes from 2015 to 2016.
