RUMOR: Chelsea to Atletico Madrid// LIKELIHOOD: No chance// Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants to sign Schurrle, according to Spanish paper AS, to supplement an already dangerous looking attack in the shape of Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann. There might be a circular logic to his thoughts (we sell you Costa, you give us Schurrle) but this isn't going to happen. Schurrle finished the season strongly at Chelsea and looked good at the World Cup. We expect a big season from the German at Stamford Bridge.

RUMOR: Unemployed to Tottenham // LIKELIHOOD: Anybody’s guess // West Ham’s hopes of signing Eto’o to help plug the gap left by accident prone Andy Carroll seem to have hit the buffers over wage demands, but Tottenham are thought to be working behind enemy lines to sign the 33-year-old Cameroon striker released by Chelsea at the end of last season. Over three weeks ago he asked on Twitter, “To the traveling lovers..what is your favorite city between: Paris, Roma, Moscow, Istanbul, Mallorca, Orlando, New York or even Los Angeles?” This man has options.

RUMOR: Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain // LIKELIHOOD: No // Two months ago Oscar owned up to the fact that he made contact with French champions PSG, but in the same breath pledged his future to the Londoners. Jose Mourinho has already sold David Luiz to PSG for an incredible $84 million, so it is unlikely Oscar will follow suit. Mourinho says one member of his squad will leave but it won’t be a senior player. Oscar is going nowhere.
RUMOR: Manchester United to Napoli// LIKELIHOOD: Still a way to go // Fellaini cut a sad and lonely figure in his first and probably last season at United, and he did not travel with the squad for the tour of the United States. Napoli have supposedly been in talks with United for a week to sign the Belgium midfielder, but United would prefer a loan deal to help increase his value. However, it is thought the player’s wages are proving to be a stumbling block.

RUMOR: Arsenal to Manchester United // LIKELIHOOD: Two-horse race // Arsene Wenger admits Vermaelen could leave Arsenal because the Belgium defender refuses to sign a new contract. Although Wenger isn’t giving up the ghost, the Gunners are in a difficult position. Vermaelen is behind Mertesacker and Koscielny in the pecking order and his current deal runs out at the end of next season, so he can discuss terms with other clubs in January. United top the list, but Barcelona are also in the running as they look to fill the gap left by Carles Puyol’s retirement. Napoli are also thought to have an interest, but it’s between United and Barca.

RUMOR: Sporting to Arsenal // LIKELIHOOD: All depends // Portuguese sports daily Ojogo reckon Arsenal are close to signing the Sporting midfielder for around $40.4 million, but we’re not so sure. His release clause is thought to be at least $20 million more, so the figure seems on the cheap side, even if it is a lump sum rather than installments. We’re going to scale it back on this one, as Khedira remains the Gunners’ first choice, but we don’t doubt Carvalho would be a decent option.

RUMOR: Manchester United to Borussia Dortmund // LIKELIHOOD: Spain on the horizon // Kagawa has struggled to stay the course at United and is expected to be one of the fringe players to be told he is no longer welcome at Old Trafford, but which clubs would embrace him with open arms? Borussia Dortmund for one, but Atletico Madrid are also interested. However, United hope to turn the tables by offering Kagawa plus $23.5 million for Arda Turan – but only if the Arturo Vidal deal fails to come off.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez
RUMOR: Manchester United to Southampton // LIKELIHOOD: They have the cash! // Van Gaal was hardly waxing lyrical about Chicharito’s brave header in the 3-1 win against Real Madrid – instead he preferred to talk about Shinji Kagawa’s pinpoint cross. Is Hernandez one of the players to be told his future lies elsewhere once United’s tour of the USA reaches its conclusion? LVG is giving little away, but Southampton boss Ronald Koeman hopes to add the Mexican to his threadbare squad with some of the cash generated from the sale of his best players. Saints may be favorites, but Atletico have put their best foot forward in trying to land him as a partner for Mario Mandzukic. Inter have also expressed an interest in the past.

RUMOR: Real Madrid to Arsenal // LIKELIHOOD: Something’s afoot // A few weeks on from Lukas Podolski’s infamous shout that Khedira would be joining Arsenal we are still no clearer about the situation. The rumors are these: Arsenal are going to make one final $50 million bid for the Germany international; Khedira will let his contract run out and join Chelsea in the summer; Pep Guardiola will bring him to Bayern. What do the bookmakers think? Arsenal are favorites, although staying at Real Madrid is a close second. High noon beckons.

RUMOR: Barcelona to Inter Milan // LIKELIHOOD: Possible // Alves lost his place to Maicon at Brazil’s disastrous World Cup campaign and is widely expected to leave Barcelona in the summer. PSG were supposedly at the front of the queue to sign the right-back, but Inter Milan have delivered a warning call by suddenly emerging as a potential destination with the offer of a long-term contract. Liverpool are still in the hunt, but it’s between PSG and Inter for us.
