April 10, 2010; Sandy, UT, USA; Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Steve Zakuani takes the ball in for a goal against Real Salt Lake during the second half at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Fredy Montero, F
Montero has been the focal point of Seattle's attack since arriving from Colombia, but 2012 stands to be his biggest year. Never before has he been surrounded by such attacking talent, something which should lead to results for the team's best goal-scorer.
Mauro Rosales, M
Rosales came to Seattle from Argentina in 2011 and proved to be a crucial addition for the team. This year, Rosales will have more than just Fredy Montero to supply, with Eddie Johnson and a return Steve Zakuani to feed.
Osvaldo Alonso, M
The best defensive midfielder in Major League Soccer, Alonso is the player that allows Seattle's attack to press without worrying about guarding against counters. Alonso does that on his own, and as his game evolves, he's finding more ways to contribute going forward.
Eddie Johnson, F
Seattle paid a high price to obtain Johnson, a former US international. It's a high-risk, high-reward scenario. If the former Fulham man clicks, Seattle has another double-digit goal scorer. If he doesn't, he's a six-digit salary that also cost Sounder two decent players.
Steve Zakuani, W
His season was ended prematurely in 2011 after a horrendous tackle. When he comes back, he is yet another goal who has the potential for double-digit goals, though there will only be so many to go around. Providing a threat from wide, Zakuani can stretch the defense for Johnson, Montero, and Rosales.
