RUMOR: Tottenham to Atletico Madrid // Likelihood: Jury out // Let me be frank: Tottenham fans would not have a day of mourning if Soldado was sold, following a disappointing first season at White Hart Lane in which he scored just one Premier League goal from open play. A season that started so promisingly fizzled out to leave Spurs fans everywhere demanding the return of Emmanuel Adebayor. Atletico Madrid, snubbed by both Romelu Lukaku and Andre Schurrle, are interested in the former Valencia player but want a loan deal, while Spurs want a permanent transfer. Galatasaray are also in the mix, but maybe Soldado’s goal against Schalke in a preseason friendly will give Pochettino food for thought.

RUMOR: Liverpool to Arsenal // Likelihood: Same problem // The Dane apparently broke down in tears on Liverpool’s tour of the USA and begged Brendan Rodgers to allow him to leave Anfield during an emotional one-on-one in the changing room. This may be another tale from the book of stories, but it’s obvious Agger is sick to his back teeth of playing second fiddle at Anfield. Now that Dejan Lovren has arrived, Agger’s opportunities are going to become scarcer. Arsenal are said to want him, but does he want to play second fiddle to Mertesacker and Koscielny too?

RUMOR: Swansea to Liverpool // Likelihood: Get moving! // Now that the Reds’ move for Loic Remy is over, attention has turned to other potential targets. One that won’t go away is Ivory Coast striker Bony. Initially it was thought that some members of the Liverpool hierarchy don’t believe Bony’s £19 million ($32 million) valuation represents good value, but now it seems as though his wage demands are a bit on the steep side. Tallying 25 goals for an average club in his first Premier League season tells its own story though. It will all end in tears if the Merseysiders don’t get a move on.

RUMOR: Ajax to Manchester United // Likelihood: We’re not so sure // Blind admits he would find it hard to turn down a move to either Barcelona or Manchester United. The Ajax defender was one of Holland’s success stories on their way to the World Cup semifinals, and the fact he played in all seven games under Louis van Gaal in Brazil makes it game, set and match in the eyes of many. But does it? Blind confesses his game is suited to La Liga and thinks the Premier League may be too “physical” for him. ‘I can’t pretend’ seems to be the message here.

RUMOR: Chelsea to Real Madrid // Likelihood: Unlikely // The world is waiting with bated breath to see which goalkeeper Jose Mourinho selects for Chelsea’s opening game of the season at Burnley next Monday. Will it be Petr Cech? Will it be Thibaut Courtois? Or will it be Mark Schwarzer or Jamal Blackman? We jest of course – there are only two options, but if Cech is left in the cold at the expense of Courtois, some believe he could join Real Madrid. Really? And play second fiddle to Keylor Navas? Wise up. We’ll see who Jose goes for in August and then we can talk.

RUMOR: Sevilla to Liverpool // Likelihood: Weird // Rather like Eliaquim Mangala’s transfer saga, the world has been waiting for highly-rated right-back Moreno to join the Reds in the coming days …except there’s a problem. That’s right, the clubs haven’t actually agreed a transfer fee. Talks took place at the start of August, but Sevilla president Jose Castro says no deal was struck. If he’s as good as everyone says he is, the Reds would be wise to cough up the cash pronto.

RUMOR: Roma to Manchester United // Likelihood: Plenty of options // United still haven’t replaced Nemanja Vidic, and rumor has it that Banatia, probably the second best defender in Serie A last season behind Giorgio Chiellini, will be available in the summer. Roma have reportedly lined up Olympiacos defender Kostas Manolas as his replacement should Banatia leave the Italian capital. It would be the saddest summer for Roma fans should Banatia leave. United would do well to land a player of his class, and we’re surprised Barcelona didn’t make a move instead of going for Vermaelen. However, Real Madrid and Chelsea are also thought to be interested.

RUMOR: Manchester United to Juventus // Likelihood: Possible // Chicharito is reportedly one of seven players told by Louis van Gaal that they have no future at Manchester United. And the grapevine has it that the Mexican will be skippin’ town pretty soon to join former United colleague Patrice Evra at Juventus as part of the deal which could bring Italy midfielder Arturo Vidal to Old Trafford. This one sounds plausible. Bad luck, Southampton.

RUMOR: Fiorentina to Manchester United // Likelihood: Gathering pace // At the weekend, van Gaal said United lacked a world-class winger in the mold of Angel di Maria, which many interpreted as a sign that the Manchester United boss had made an offer for the Real Madrid player. However, many expect LVG to save himself a bit of money by signing the Colombia international instead. Catalan newspaper Sport say United have already agreed personal terms with Cuadrado, but er … haven’t actually agreed a transfer fee with his club. Oops.

RUMOR: Monaco to Real Madrid // Likelihood: Hot air // The future of Falcao remains a thing of mystery after his father said some things which vaguely translated as, “I can’t rule him out leaving Monaco.” Many reports also left out a quote that said he “does not talk about football” with his son. It all sounds like stuff and nonsense to us. In any case, Falcao has only just recovered from a serious knee injury. No club would take that sort of a chance at this stage.
