It might seem like MLS Cup just ended, but the 2017 season is less than a month away. A new season brings about new kits, and NYCFC dropped their new official home kit on Tuesday. After finishing second in the Eastern Conference and bowing out in the conference semis, NYCFC are hoping these fresh duds bring some additional luck.
The new home kits are just the second-ever look NYCFC has had. First off, it looks like the club are purposefully differentiating themselves from City across the pond. With less of a focus on white accents, the adidas design has numerous touches that make it "New York."
As mentioned, the previous home kit featured primarily white accents. This new kit ditches that vibe. With the signature adidas three stripes on the shoulder, the accents on the new kit are a dark blue. An orange stripe adorns the dark blue trim along both sleeves.
The 2017 kit borrows from the tricolor of the Flag of New York City, which is navy blue, white and orange. The flag is featured on the kit's jocktag, with the club's interlocking letters featured in the middle.
Another tribute to the Big Apple is found inside the neck of the kit. All five boroughs of New York City are listed on the inside of the collar.
The shirt is complemented with navy blue shorts with sky blue stripes, an inverse of the top. Sky blue socks complete the look, which is sure to be one of the sharpest on the pitch next season.
The kit will be available in stores on Feb. 17, but fans can pre-order online now. Andrea Pirlo had this to say about the new look, via the club's website: "I am honored to put on this new jersey because it represents my new home, New York City. I am excited whenever I play in the City’s colors in front of all of our amazing fans at Yankee Stadium."
