The MLS Cup Playoffs are set to get underway. Of course, if you have a favorite team in the playoffs, you know who you're rooting for. But what if you're a neutral, your team didn't make the postseason or you want a second-favorite team?

RSL are quietly one of the most entrenched clubs in their local market. Walk around Utah and you'll see plenty of people in RSL gear. It would be cool to see them win a trophy without Garth Lagerway and Jason Kreis, putting to bed any fear that they could only succeed with that duo.

They told their biggest name, Didier Drogba, to fall in line and get out. You've gotta love the guts.

You can root for Landon Donovan to win another Cup in his return from retirement. Or, um, yeah, that's about it for this squad.

Sporting Kansas City
Kansas City is one of the best soccer cities in the country and Children's Mercy Park is the league's best stadium. Any time you can get that place rocking, it's a good thing.

RFK Stadium is a dump, ownership has never really committed to the club and they haven't always played particularly great soccer. Despite that, the fans have turned out year after year. They deserve good things, and Ben Olsen deserves recognition for making that team competitive despite all the hurdles. Also Ben Olsen is a fantastic dresser, and that's important.

The Rapids were supposed to be competing for the title of MLS's Worst Team. Instead, Pablo Mastroeni orchestrated one of the biggest turnarounds in league history and had them in the mix for the Supporters' Shield. Now they take aim at MLS Cup.
Bonus: Maybe we can convince Mastroeni to grow out his mustache again if the Rapids win.

You can root for them because their fans finally have something to look forward to after years of absolute garbage.
You can root for them because of Sebastian Giovinco.
You can root for them because it's good for the league when ambitious teams are rewarded.
You should root for them for all those reasons.

New York Red Bulls
The Red Bulls were one of MLS's original teams and they've never won an MLS Cup. Despite that, they've had some of the best supporters in the league. Even when Giants Stadium, and then Red Bull Arena marred by thousands of empty seats, the supporters sections were packed and loud. Those diehard fans have shown up year-after-year, through all the heartbreak. Get them a damn MLS Cup.
Also, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Sacha Kljestan leading one of the league's best and most fun attacks.

They were dead and buried. Seriously, this team was horrific and had no chance at the postseason.
Yet here they are, in the playoffs, red hot and a ton of fun to watch.
Plus, if Seattle turned it around then won the MLS Cup Sigi Schmid couldn't after they fired him, the #takes would be red hot. Almost as hot as whenever Schmid gets another job and takes on the Sounders for the first time.

FC Dallas are the model club: they develop young players, give them chances to play, have a great system, play attractive soccer and are generally delightful. Also, Oscar Pareja is just the best.
If that doesn't do it for you, history should. FC Dallas will be the first team in American history to win the domestic treble if they take MLS Cup.
