Goaltender Kevin Boyle reassigned to Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) after three days with Gulls

The San Diego Gulls reassigned goaltender Kevin Boyle to the Utah Grizzlies, the Gulls’ go-to club within the ECHL, on Monday after just a three-day stint with the team.

San Diego first recalled Boyle from the Grizzlies to backup Gulls goaltender Dustin Tokarski on the road against the Bakersfield Condors on Feb. 17. Boyle was needed to play the primary backup role because Gulls goaltender Jhonas Enroth didn’t make the trip to Bakersfield due to rest, per Gulls Communications Manager Steve Brown.

It’s safe to say Enroth earned the rest.

After joining the team via trade in Jan. 2017, Enroth has played in 12 of the Gulls last 16 games, posting a 10-2 record with two shutouts, 288 saves and a .944 save percentage. He also earned CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month honors after going 6-0-0 in his six appearances in January.

Boyle hasn’t had the same level of success in his 11 appearances with the Gulls this season, as he has earned a 5-3-3 record with a 2.33 goals-against average (GAA) and .919 save percentage.

Brown, however, did say Boyle could return to the Gulls this season if needed.

Until then, the Gulls will press forward with Enroth, Tokarski and Matt Hackett in the net.
