While we wait for Ohio State football practice to open up again, we’re looking back at the 2009 season. Time to recapture the memories of the Rose Bowl….
Ohio State vs. Oregon – January 1st, 2010 – The Rose Bowl
Outside of the state of Ohio, not many people were giving the Buckeyes any chance to win this game. Most sports fans were basing their opinions on the recent bowl failures of the Buckeyes, especially the 2006 and 2007 BCS National Championship games. “Can’t win the big game” was the prevailing theme, and when coupled with a high-powered Oregon team, many pundits predicted the Ducks would rack up 40+ points and an easy win.
It was fun watching those same people squirm.
Terrelle Pryor played the best game of his career, and Ohio State used their legendary defense to shut down Oregon as the Buckeyes won the Rose Bowl 26-17.
After pushing out to a quick 10-0 lead, the vaunted Oregon offense got moving and tied the game at 10-10. The Ducks eventually took a 17-16 lead, but never found the ability to slow down Pryor. The Bucks reclaimed the lead and held on down the stretch for the victory.
