Florida State’s grip on No. 2 in BCS standings strengthens

The margin between No. 2 Florida State and No. 3 Ohio State continues to grow.

Florida State (.966) now has a considerable lead over Ohio State (.887) in the BCS standings released Sunday night. The Seminoles are now closer to No. 1 Alabama (.991) than the No. 3 Buckeyes.

After Ohio State (10-0), Baylor (9-0) is fourth and Oregon (9-1) is fifth.

The computer rankings have Florida State and Alabama tied for the top spot.

Central Florida is 18th in the BCS, dropping one spot.

After dropping its third straight game, Miami tumbled out of the BCS. The Hurricanes were 23rd last week.

Florida State remained at No. 2 in both polls on Sunday, one day after a 59-3 rout of Syracuse that clinched a perfect run through the ACC season.

Alabama retains the top spot in both polls, followed by Florida State. Ohio State was third in the coaches’ poll, followed by Baylor and Oregon. In the AP poll, Baylor took the third spot, then Ohio State and Oregon.

Voters weren’t impressed by Central Florida’s nail-biting 39-36 win at Temple.  The Knights (8-1) dropped a spot to No. 20 in the coaches poll and two spots to No. 17 in the AP poll.

Miami fell out of the top 25 after a 48-30 loss to Duke.
