KILLINGLY, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut girl has suffered a medical emergency during a Little League softball game and died.

Killingly schools superintendent Lynne Pierson says the seventh-grader at Killingly Intermediate School was playing in a game at Roseland Park in Woodstock on Tuesday when the medical emergency occurred.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Pierson says she doesn't know the nature of the medical emergency. State police have declined to comment, saying they don't release information about children.

The town's Little League also has declined to comment on the girl's death. It's helping to raise money for her funeral on its Facebook page.

Pierson says counseling was made available to students at several schools on Wednesday.
