Archery fans were angered Friday when they were turned away for preliminary rounds at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The ranking rounds were not advertised as open to the public, Olympic officials said Friday. The officials added that they had sent warnings about buying tickets from unofficial websites.
Dozens surrounded an entrance before the competition began, many upset with Olympic volunteers about why they couldn’t get in. One man said he was told as many as 4,000 people were going to be allowed in to watch archery.
An Olympic spokeswoman said liveolympictickets.com, which sold fake tickets to the event, has been shut down.
Some who came to watch apparently believed there were no tickets sold but that they would be able to get in free. Others discovered they had purchased counterfeit tickets when they arrived.
Men and women shoot their ranking rounds Friday.
South Korea’s team scored a world record with 2,087 points for first place. Legally blind Im Dong-hyun also set a world record with 699 points, beating his own world record by three arrows.
