Paris to announce 2024 Olympic bid next week

PARIS — Paris will officially announce its bid for the 2024 Olympics next week.

Paris promoters say they will meet on Tuesday at French Olympic Committee headquarters. Bid leaders Tony Estanguet, Bernard Lapasset and Etienne Thobois will lay out the details of the French project.

The bid announcement will coincide with Olympic Day on June 23, the day the International Olympic Committee was founded in Paris in 1894.

Paris will join Rome, Boston and Hamburg as declared bidders. Budapest is also expected to bid.

The deadline for submission of bids is Sept. 15. The IOC will select the host city in 2017.

Paris last hosted the Olympics in 1924. It mounted failed bids for the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Games.
