ASPEN, Colo. -- Nick Baumgartner, who lost in Friday's X Games quarterfinals, received the last spot on the U.S. snowboardcross team. Two-time defending champion Seth Wescott is expected to be left off the team
Although the team won't be announced until Saturday, Baumgartner told USA Today that he received the news Friday at the X Games.
"We were just in (the athlete lounge) and the coaches were standing there and they looked at me and said, 'Baum, we're picking you for the Olympics.' So to know that, I'm super excited," he told USA Today. "I don't know that it's official, but they told me and I said, 'Can I tell my parents they can tell people?' And they said, 'Absolutely.' "
Baumgartner, a 2010 Olympian from Northern Michigan, won a gold in snowboardcross in the 2011 X Games and a silver in 2012.
