Javier Gomez wins ITU World Triathlon at Chicago

Spain’s Javier Gomez pulled away late in the run Sunday at Grant Park for his fourth ITU World Triathlon Series victory of the season.

Gomez completed the 1,500-meter swim, 38.1-kilometer bike ride and 10-kilometer run in 1 hour, 47 minutes, 21 seconds. Portugal’s Joao Pereira was second in 1:47:29, and Spain’s Mario Mola followed in 1:47:40.

Gomez leads the season standings with 3,742 points. Mola is second with 3,322.
