German men, Italian women win World Cup snowboard cross events

MONTAFON, Austria (AP)

Germany won the first men's snowboard World Cup cross team event of the season on Sunday, while Italy edged the United States for victory in the women's competition.

Konstantin Schad and Paul Berg won the men's final ahead of Canada's Kevin Hill and Jake Holden. Luca Matteotti and Michele Godino earned third place for Italy.

Italy's Raffaella Brutto and Michela Moioli defeated Lindsey Jacobellis and Callan Chythlook-Sifsof of the United States in a close women's final. Chloe Trespeuch and Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France took third.

The next World Cup snowboard cross event is scheduled for Lake Louise, Canada, on Dec. 20-21.
