INNSBRUCK, Austria -- Austrian ski jumper Thomas Morgenstern will skip the remaining 10 World Cup events this season in order to rest after recovering in time from a ski flying crash to compete at the Sochi Olympics.
Morgenstern, who suffered skull and lung injuries in the Jan. 10 training crash, won silver with Austria in the team event last Monday.
Morgenstern says "the last couple of weeks have been very emotional for me. I want to clear my mind now."
The 27-year-old won Olympic gold in the individual competition and the team event in 2006, and again in the team event four years later.
Morgenstern, who has won 23 individual World Cups and took the overall title in 2008 and 2011, is 11th in the overall season standings.
