ROME: Take the figs and run, Olga

Thursday's guests are the new WBC welterweight champion Vernon Forrest, followed by the undisputed middleweight champion of the world Bernard '"The Executioner" Hopkins. I'd love to be fired-up for the start of the Winter Games Friday, but it's hard for me to do so when former Olympic greats are falling from grace and getting arrested. Four-time gold medalist Olga Korbut was arrested recently for shoplifting $19 worth of grub from a grocery store. A market cop stopped her at the door and found chocolate syrup, cheese, figs, a box of tea and seasoning mix in her purse. Olga said it was a big misunderstanding and that she just left her money in her car. Really, so instead of going out to the car to get the money to pay for the figs, you just decided to steal the figs? Right. Even worse than a four time gold medalist being picked up for ripping figs is the fact that shortly thereafter, authorities showed up at her house — a home that she will soon be evicted from — and discovered thousands of dollars in counterfeit money on the floor. This is crazy. She's a thief and a counterfeiter. Hey, O, if you're a counterfeiter, you might not want to leave all that funny money lying on the floor. I mean, it's one thing to rip a box of figs from a store, but quite another to print your own money. What happened to Olga? I don't think I need to worry about Mary Lou Retton casing 7-11's. What a horrible story. Oh and by the way, one day until the Olympics begin if you need them. And more importantly, 17 days until they end.
