World champion Barbara Engleder of Germany won her first 50m Rifle 3 Positions World Cup gold medal since 2005 at the Royal Artillery Barracks on Thursday.

First-time finalist Stephanie Obermoser of Austria was a point behind for the silver and Olympic champion Du Li of China claimed the bronze.

Meanwhile, European trap champion Fatima Galvez of Spain won her biggest title yet despite missing five clays in the final in 28 mph gusts.

Elena Tkach of Russia, the 2002 world champ, was a hit behind in second, and two further back in third was 19-year-old Kayle Browning of the United States in her first major final.

Engleder had been close to ending her World Cup drought before now. She was a finalist in all three shoots last year, then broke through for her first World Cup Final title in September. She entered the final with a two-point advantage, then held on despite hitting the nine-ring four times.

''I hope I will repeat this in August,'' she said. ''It has been cold and windy, which is not nice, but that turned into an advantage to me, as I am good at shooting in the wind. I hope I will be in the same conditions at games time.''

Engleder totaled 686.1, and Obermoser had 685.1. Du scored 684.2.

The gusts played havoc in the women's trap final, with more than a third of the clay targets, 52 out of 150, missed.

Galvez and Tkach fought to the end, with Tkach missing her 18th and 19th targets to leave Galvez one ahead to the end of the 25-clay final. Galvez finished with a combined 89, Tkach 88 and Browning 86 in her second World Cup.

''I cope well with the wind,'' Galvez said. ''It hasn't been a big problem for me, as I am kind of used to it. I just hope it won't be the same at games time. I would love to be in the same place at games time.''
