Jonsson wins opening biathlon World Cup event

OSTERSUND, Sweden (AP)

Defending overall champion Helena Jonsson led a Swedish double Wednesday in the opening biathlon World Cup event of the season.

Jonsson missed one shot at the third shooting range in her home event and finished the women's 15-kilometer race in 43 minutes, 1.4 seconds. Teammate Anna Carin Olofsson-Zidek missed two targets and finished second, 26.2 seconds behind.

Darya Domracheva of Bulgaria also missed two targets and finished third, 1:16.4 off the lead.

The men's World Cup opens Thursday with a 20K race, followed by sprint and relay races on Friday and Saturday.

Jonsson won her first overall World Cup title in March and won the 10K at this year's world championships in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
