The U.S. Olympic Committee is hiring 1984 Olympic gold medal hurdler Benita Fitzgerald Mosley to a new position, chief of organizational excellence.

Fitzgerald Mosley, who won the gold in 100 meter hurdles at the Los Angeles Games, will move to the USOC after spending four years as chief of sport performance at USA Track and Field, which took home 29 medals from last year's Olympics.

Fitzgerald Mosley will oversee athlete career programs and the athlete ombudsman office. She will also take over many of the responsibilities of outgoing chief administrative officer Kirsten Volpi. Among Volpi's duties were running the USOC's diversity program and strategic planning.

Fitzgerald Mosley was president and CEO of Women in Cable Telecommunications from 2001-09 after working for the USOC from 1995-2001. Among her posts were director of U.S. Olympic Training Centers and director of public relations programs. She moved to USATF in 2009 after a broad reorganization was called for in the aftermath of a disappointing showing at the Beijing Olympics.

The USOC also announced the departure of chief of sport operations Mike English, who briefly served as chief of sport performance before Alan Ashley took over. English will leave at the end of the month. Most of his duties will be taken over by Rick Adams, who oversees development of the country's national governing bodies.
