Other players already chosen to the squad include Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Shannon Johnson, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Katie Smith, Dawn Staley and Tina Thompson.
Cash played with Taurasi on Connecticut's 2002 national championship team and was also on the Huskies' squad that captured the 2000 title. She will be entering her third season with the Shock.
Cash helped Detroit to the 2003 WNBA title, turning around the worst team in the league in 2002 to the No. 1 squad last season. She averaged 16.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during the regular season.
"I'm really excited," said Cash. "I don't think I'm a stranger to hard work and everything in my life I've gotten has come from hard work, determination and perseverance through a lot of different things. For me to train for two months and travel with the team in order to work my way onto the team, it means so much more to me to be a part of this."
Taurasi captured three NCAA titles while at Connecticut and was the No. 1 pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Mercury. She played with the U.S. team in three exhibition games against
"Probably one of the coolest parts will be playing with Swin (Cash) and Sue (Bird) again," said Taurasi when asked about playing with her former UConn teammates this summer. "I started my college career playing with those guys and now we have the chance to be on the same team again. Once you graduate from college you don't really have the opportunity to play with your former teammates, so that's going to be special."
The USA owns a 34-3 overall record in the Olympics and has won a record four gold medals, one silver and one bronze in the six previous competitions in which the Americans have competed.
