Capriati topples Graf -- 1992
When Jennifer Capriati and Steffi Graf met in the Barcelona final on red clay, one was a definite underdog. Graf, a defending champion who already captured every Grand Slam was a deserving top seed and a favorite in a deep draw. Capriati lost only one set on the way to the final, but few expected her to harm the champion. After losing the first set 6-3, Capriati started going for her shots, putting on a dazzling power display and knocking out the heavy favorite 6-3, 6-4 in the final two sets to a rousing standing ovation. It would be another eight years before the American would actually capture a Grand Slam, but a gold medal was sealed in Spain, making her youngest Olympic tennis champion in history at 16 years and four months.
