Boston College has hired Ohio University’s Jim Christian as its new basketball coach.

The sides have been negotiating since early in the week. A deal was finalized on Thursday, the team formally announced.

This is Christian’s second departure from a Mid-American Conference job. He took the Ohio job in 2012 after four years at TCU, where he went after taking two Kent State teams to the NCAA tournament.

Christian was 49-22 in two seasons at Ohio. His roots in the Boston area go back to his college days where he played two seasons at Boston University before transferring to the University of Rhode Island.
