Northwest Ohio sweeps Big Ten basketball awards

It was a Northwest Ohio sweep of the weekly Big Ten basketball awards.

Earning Player of the Week was Ohio State senior Aaron Craft, while Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes won Freshman of the Week honors from the conference office.

Craft is from Findlay, and Hayes is a graduate of Toledo Whitmer High School.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Craft’s career. He averaged 8 points, 7 assists, 3.5 steals and 5.5 rebounds without committing a single turnover in a pair of wins to open the Big Ten season and help No. 3 Ohio State move to 15-0 on the season.

Craft leads the Big Ten in steals (2.5) and ranks second overall in assists (4.9 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (2.7).

The 6’10 Hayes averaged 13.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a pair of Big Ten wins over Northwestern and Iowa, helping Wisconsin also move to 15-0 on the season

Hayes is the sixth player to earn back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
