Indians’ Axford perfect in Oscars predictions

Indians closer John Axford went 18-for-18 in his Oscar predictions.

If John Axford can pitch for the Indians like he can make Oscars predictions, it could be a successful season.

Axford, who has posted his predictions on Facebook since 2011, successfully picked every winner from Sunday night’s Academy Awards in the 18 categories where he made a prediction.

After the final Oscar for Best Picture was awarded to "12 Years a Slave", Axford shared his excitement via Twitter.

By comparison, Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican was 15 of 18.

Axford was 14 of 15 last year. The only category he got wrong was Best Director when Ang Lee won Best Director for "Life of Pi" instead of Steven Spielberg for "Lincoln". He said on his Facebook page that he was 11 of 15 in 2012 and 11 of 13 in 2011.

This year Axford added predictions for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Visual Effects, and Best Costume Design.

Axford, who signed with the Indians during the offseason, made his Spring Training debut in the fifth inning of last Friday’s game against the Reds. Axford pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two and walking one in the Tribe’s 4-0 win.

As @jjsnowcat said on Twitter Sunday night — "This Axford perfect Oscar chase is getting more tweets than the ballgame against Mariners did!"
