Home from Afghanistan: Dad surprises son before Mariners-Indians game

Roger Patterson, 6, gets a big surprise from his dad, Rob, a 14-year Navy veteran who had spent the past seven-and-a-half months in Afghanistan.

Safeco Field in Seattle was the scene of a truly heartwarming moment Sunday, before the Indians took on the Mariners.

Six-year-old Roger Patterson stood on the field in his No. 22 Robinson Cano jersey, holding a stuffed animal of the Mariners’ mascot "Mariner Moose" when he received the surprise of his young life.

Watch as Roger gets to see his dad, Rob, a 14-year Navy veteran who had spent the past seven-and-a-half months serving his country in Afghanistan (You may want to have some tissues handy).

Roger’s favorite team shut out the Indians for a win but we have a feeling this is a day he’d never forget, no matter the result on the field.
