Browns’ Richardson to wear padding over rib injury

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson will wear a protective flak jacket in this week’s game to guard a rib injury against Indianapolis.
Richardson sustained a rib cartilage injury in Sunday’s win over Cincinnati. Richardson said his side was sore and he had trouble breathing after he absorbed a helmet hit in the first quarter. Richardson expects to play against the Colts and Browns coach Pat Shurmur said his starting running back will be outfitted in extra “space-age designed” protective equipment.
Shurmur quipped the jacket is “bullet proof and he (Richardson) told me he already was.”
Shurmur is confident backups Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya will produce if Richardson is limited. Hardesty replaced Richardson last week and ran for 56 yards and scored his first career TD as the Browns got their first win and snapped an 11-game losing streak.
Browns wide receiver Greg Little was not on the indoor practice field Wednesday during the short period it was open to media members.
Little has 14 catches for 169 yards and one TD this season. Little has been plagued by dropped passes during his two seasons.
