COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Nathan Horton, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and defenseman Dalton Prout off Injured Reserve, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Columbus has also reassigned forward Jonathan Marchessault, defenseman Tim Erixon and goaltender Mike McKenna to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Horton, 28, signed a seven-year contract with the Blue Jackets on July 5 and underwent successful shoulder surgery 12 days later. He has missed the first 40 games of the 2013-14 campaign as a result. The 6-2, 229-pound right winger has registered 198 goals and 204 assists for 402 points with 543 penalty minutes in 591 career NHL games with the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
Bobrovsky, 25, was placed on IR on December 4 with a strained groin sustained during Columbus’ 1-0 home win over Tampa Bay the previous night. He has missed the last 12 games as a result of the injury. In 23 appearances this season, Bobrovsky is 10-11-2 with a 2.72 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage. He has also posted one shutout. In 2012-13, Bobrovsky became the first Blue Jacket to win the Vezina Trophy as the National Hockey League’s top goaltender after posting a 21-11-6 record, 2.00 GAA, .932 SV% and four shutouts in 38 games. He has appeared in 144 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers and is 73-45-18 with a 2.53 GAA and a .915 SV%.
Prout, 23, has missed the last six games with an upper body injury. He has recorded two assists, 29 penalty minutes and 41 blocked shots in 24 games played with Columbus this season. During the 2012-13 campaign, Prout tallied 1- 6-7 with 25 penalty minutes and a +15 rating in 28 games with the Blue Jackets, leading the club in plus/minus while ranking second among rookie NHL defensemen in that category. Prout was Columbus’ seventh pick, 154th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft and has recorded 1-8-9, 54 PIM and a +9 rating in 57 career NHL games.
