ST. PAUL, Minn. — The
Minnesota Wild recalled forward Charlie Coyle and placed defenseman Jared Spurgeon on injured reserve, the team announced Sunday.
If Coyle plays Monday against Phoenix, it will be the 20-year-old's NHL debut. He has played with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League this season, scoring 14 goals and adding 10 assists in 44 games.
Coyle played his college hockey at Boston University and was traded from San Jose to the Wild along with Devin Setoguchi and a first-round draft pick in exchange for Brent Burns and a second-round pick in 2011. Coyle also competed for the United States in the World Junior Championship in 2011.
Spurgeon has missed the last five games with what is being called a lower body injury.
