Minnesota announced Wednesday it re-signed forward Stephane Veilleux to a two-year contract. The contract is a two-way deal, meaning Veilleux can be sent to the team's minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League, which is moving to Des Moines, Ia., next season.
Veilleux, 31, played in two playoff games for the Wild last season after not appearing in any regular-season games for the team. The nine-year veteran had three goals and five assists, along with 45 penalty minutes for the Houston Aeros of the AHL last season in 33 regular-season games. He added two assists in three playoff games with Houston.
Veilleux, originally a third-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2001 draft, is eighth in franchise history in games played and 10th in penalty minutes. His re-signing is the first move the Wild have made in the offseason since losing 4-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs.
