Wild place defensemen Ballard, Folin on injured reserve

The Minnesota Wild placed defensemen Keith Ballard and Christian Folin on injured reserve Tuesday and recalled Stu Bickel and Justin Falk from Iowa.

Both Ballard and Folin are hitting IR due to illness. The move is retroactive to Oct. 21, so the pair could be activated any time after Tuesday night’s game at Boston.

Folin has played in three games this season for the Wild and has no points and five penalty minutes. Ballard has one assist and two penalty minutes in one game.

Ballard has nine assists and 157 penalty minutes in 67 career NHL games. He signed as a free agent with Minnesota in the offseason and had five penalty minutes in four games with Iowa.

Falk has played in 129 career NHL games with one goal and 17 points along with 120 penalty minutes. He had eight penalty minutes for Iowa this season.

After Tuesday’s game against the Bruins, the Wild next play at home Thursday against San Jose at 7 p.m. That game will be televised by FOX Sports North Plus.
