Twins trade Jamey Carroll to Royals

Jamey Carroll has been traded to the Royals for a player to be named later or cash.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Immediately after their 5-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, the Twins announced they're parting ways with veteran third baseman Jamey Carroll.

The team traded the 39-year-old to the Royals for a player to be named later or cash. Kansas City will be his seventh stop during a 12-year career.

Carroll appeared in 59 games this season and hit .230 with six doubles and nine RBI. The Twins signed him as a free agent during the 2011 offseason following a two-year stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He has played seven different positions at the major-league level -- eight when including his relief pitching appearance against the Royals earlier this year. In one-plus seasons with the Twins, he batted .257 with an OPS of .628.
