Twins recall 1B Parmelee, option RHP De Vries

Parmelee began the year on the Twins' 25-man roster but struggled offensively. In 27 games, he hit just 179 with three RBI and 21 strikeouts. The demotion seemed to help his bat, however, as he was hitting .375/.500/.708 in 15 games with the Red Wings, including four home runs and 12 RBI.
While with the Twins this season, Parmelee spent most of his time at first base as Justin Morneau was slowly working back from multiple injuries. But with Morneau healthy again, Parmelee's time at first base may be limited. He did play a handful of games in the outfield earlier this year for the Twins.
De Vries, an Eden Prairie, Minn., native, made his big league debut with the Twins on May 24 and appeared in three games. He earned his first career win on Monday against Kansas City in Minnesota's 10-7 road victory. In three starts, De Vries was 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA and nine strikeouts in 15 innings.
The Twins are off Thursday but will play host to the Chicago Cubs beginning Friday for a three-game series.
