MINNEAPOLIS — Ricky Rubio will remain in Minneapolis this week while the Timberwolves play back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday against the Jazz and Nuggets.
Rubio has not played since the team’s Dec. 26 game against Houston. He began suffering from back spasms Friday, and though he attempted to play Saturday, his back remained too stiff. The point guard did not practice Monday and was limited Tuesday, and he’ll remain in Minnesota for treatment.
Coach Rick Adelman said the back problems might be related to Rubio overcompensating for his surgically repaired knee; Rubio experienced groin issues a week ago, though they didn’t keep him out of games or practices.
Since returning to play Dec. 15, Rubio has played no more than 22 minutes in a game and has averaged 4.2 points and 4.0 assists.
