EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. --Adrian Peterson's status for Sunday's regular-season finale is in doubt, but the MVP running back will have one more game this season if he wants to play.
Peterson, who is third in the league in rushing with 1,226 yards, was the sole Minnesota Vikings player elected to the Pro Bowl on Friday night. Minnesota sent seven players to the Pro Bowl last year, including Peterson.
Peterson will be making his sixth Pro Bowl appearance in his seven NFL seasons in the annual game, which the NFL changed this season to pick the top players at each position, regardless of conference affiliation. Peterson was third among all running backs in fan voting, behind Kansas City's Jamaal Charles and Seattle's Marshawn Lynch.
Peterson is one of six running backs selected, including Charles, Lynch, Philadelphia's LeSean McCoy, Chicago's Matt Forte and San Francisco's Frank Gore. Five of the six backs came from the NFC.
Peterson's sixth Pro Bowl selection ties him for the fifth-most in Vikings' history. Randall McDaniel was chosen for 11 Pro Bowls, followed by defensive tackle Alan Page (nine), receiver Cris Carter (eight) and tackle Ron Yary (seven).
Safety Joey Browner, linebacker Matt Blair, defensive end Chris Doleman, defensive end Carl Eller, safety Paul Krause, tight end Steve Jordan, defensive tackle John Randle, center Mick Tinglehoff, center Matt Birk and defensive tackle Kevin Williams each have been elected to six Pro Bowls.
The biggest snub for Minnesota is rookie kickoff returner Cordarrelle Patterson, who leads the league with 1,342 kickoff return yards, a 33.6-yard average and two returns for touchdowns, including an NFL record 109-yarder.
Instead of a kickoff returner, the NFL named two punt returners: Kansas City's Dexter McCluster and Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown.
