Kevin Love underwent successful surgery Tuesday morning on the third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand, which he injured on Jan. 3 in Denver.
Dr. Michelle Carlson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York performed the procedure. Love is expected to miss 8-10 weeks while recovering, which will likely keep him out until mid-March.
Love went to New York last Wednesday to consult with Dr. Andy Weiland at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which was when the decision to undergo surgery was made. Weiland worked with Love on his past two hand injuries, but he was unavailable to perform the surgery until later this week – hence the change in surgeons.
Love first broke the third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand before the season began, on Oct. 17, and returned to action Nov. 21. His season has been filled with a series of freak incidents, including a bruised thumb, an incident when he was poked in the eye and two bouts with illness.
In 18 games this season, Love has averaged 18.3 points and 14.0 rebounds. He has 14 double-doubles on the season.
