News: The Islanders signed de Haan to a three-year $5.9 million contract Tuesday, Newsday reports.
Impact: De Haan is a former first-round pick for the Islanders who's had trouble staying healthy in the AHL. However, he proved last season with the Isles that if he can stay in one piece, he can be a useful part of the team's defense. De Haan will likely once again be a top-four defenseman this season.
