News: Price allowed three goals on 30 shots in Thursday's overtime loss to Vancouver.
Impact: That just goes to show you the difference that offense can make to a goalie's stats -- if the Habs score one more goal in regulation, Price ends up with a two-goal night and shiny ratios all around. But they didn't, and Daniel Sedin ended up scoring a power-play goal in overtime, and so Price ended up with a bit of a clunker and the end of his five-game winning streak. Nonetheless, Price has been among the game's more valuable goalies to start the year, and there's no reason that shouldn't continue.
Thu. Oct 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Thursday's game against the Canucks.
Impact: As anticipated, Price will be between the crease as the goalie returns to his native British Columbia. He'll extend his winning streak to six games if he's able to hold off the Canucks.
Thu. Oct 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price is expected to start in goal Thursday against the Canucks.
Impact: Price has reeled off wins in five consecutive starts, but may be the underdog on the road against Vancouver and their equally high-performing goalie, Ryan Miller. Expect the Canadiens to officially confirm Price as Thursday's starter during pregame warmups.
Wed. Oct 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bourque, who has one assist in 10 games, was benched for a stretch during the second period of Wednesday night's win over the Flames, the Montreal Gazette reports. He skated just 7:47 on Wednesday and has a minus-5 rating for the season.
Impact: Bourque and the rest of the third line are not producing much offense early on and it's been a target of head coach Michel Therrien's tinkering. First, Jiri Sekac was moved off and then the coach benched both Bourque and Lars Eller on Wednesday.
Wed. Oct 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Parenteau's shootout goal gave the Canadiens a 2-1 win over the Flames on Tuesday.
Impact: Since scoring twice against Boston, Parenteau does not have a point in five straight games. Until the shootout, Parenteau had contributed little in this one -- zero shots and an irresponsible cross-checking penalty late in the third period of a tie game. The Canadiens have been outplayed in the first two games of their swing through western Canada, and it would not be surprising to see some lineup changes heading into Thursday's tilt with the Canucks.
Wed. Oct 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Eller picked up a neutral-zone roughing penalty during Tuesday night's 2-1 shootout win over Calgary and was given a seat for the third period and overtime, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Impact: The Canadiens managed to steal two points in western Canada on a night when they were outplayed by the hard-working Flames, whose relentless pressure forced some bad Montreal penalties in a close game. Eller (5:46 ice time, 12 shifts) along with linemate Rene Bourque (7:47, 12 shifts) often played the role of spectator Tuesday night, so owners should monitor their ice time closely going forward.
Wed. Oct 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Gilbert scored his first goal of the season in Tuesday night's 2-1 shootout win over Calgary.
Impact: The lone goal ended up being just enough for netminder Carey Price, who locked the Flames out of his own net 36 times in 37 shots. Gilbert's not the first name we think of when talking about scoring defensemen on the Habs' blue line, but his snap shot found its way past the Flames' Jonas Hiller to bring the game even. He has two points and is plus-3 in 10 games.
Tue. Oct 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price will be in the net Tuesday against the Flames, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact: The Canadiens went with Dustin Tokarski in the first game of the team's doubleheader Monday versus the Oilers, so Price will slot back into the crease following the day of rest. Price got off to a sluggish start to the season, but he's since reeled off wins in six of his last seven starts, holding the opposition to two or fewer goals over his last three outings.
Tue. Oct 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price saved 36 of 37 shots and was flawless in the shootout during Tuesday's win over the Flames.
Impact: Price has now won five consecutive starts, giving up exactly one goal in each of his last three outings. He's developed into a very fine goalie and the Habs have a good team -- keep rolling him.
Mon. Oct 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tokarski managed to stop just 16 of 18 shots in a loss to the Oilers on Monday.
Impact: Tokarski has now allowed five goals on 36 shots in his last two appearances and hasn't been able to provide quality relief for workhorse starter Carey Price yet this season. As plays rarely and hasn't performed well to date, we'd avoid Tokarski as a spot start in most leagues until he improves his play.
Mon. Oct 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tokarski will start between the pipes against the Oilers on Monday, Jack Michaels of the Oilers radio broadcast reports.
Impact: Tokarski will take the front end of the team's back-to-back games to start the week, with Carey Price likely to start Tuesday against the Flames. Tokarski has won his only start this season, making 29 saves on 30 shots against the Capitals.
Mon. Oct 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Beaulieu was recalled from Hamilton of the American Hockey League, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Impact: Beaulieu joined the team in Edmonton where the Habs kick off a three-game swing through western Canada. He began the season as part of the top-six defenders, but has since been supplanted by Jarred Tinordi.
Mon. Oct 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bournival was called up from Hamilton of the American Hockey League and is with the team as it opens a three-game swing through western Canada Monday night in Edmonton, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Impact: Bournival has been up and down twice between the NHL and AHL, but has yet to be active for the parent club.
Sun. Oct 26, 2014 | STATS
News: Price made 34 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over the New York Rangers.
Impact: In his last three games, Price has posted a 1.33 goals-against average and .959 save percentage after allowing at least three goals in his first four starts.
Sun. Oct 26, 2014 | STATS
News: Pacioretty had a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over the New York Rangers.
Impact: Pacioretty has two goals and four assists during Montreal's four-game winning streak. He also has four goals in his last three games against Edmonton, the Canadiens' next opponent.
Oct 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Plekanec scored a shorthanded goal in Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Rangers.
Impact: Plekanec and Max Pacioretty found themselves on a 2-0 break during a first-period penalty-kill to open the scoring. It was Plekanec's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Oct 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Eller scored his first goal of the season Saturday, the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over the Rangers.
Impact: There's been some near misses through the first seven games, but Eller finally got some puck luck in the eighth contest of the season.
Oct 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Weise had two assists and three hits in Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Rangers.
Impact: Weise has taken up residence on the third line the past two games, filling in for Jiri Sekac (healthy scratch) again Saturday. He's playing like someone who doesn't plan to give up his new role anytime soon. Weise has two points and nine hits in the past two games, generating some scoring chances with linemates Rene Bourque and Lars Eller.
Oct 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Sekac was a healthy scratch for the second straight game Saturday.
Impact: Dale Weise skated on the third line once again and picked up a couple of assists. It may be a few games before the young Czech gets back in the active lineup.
Sat. Oct 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Pacioretty scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.
Impact: His six points in his last four games are just about as good as anyone in the league. He has three goals in eight games this season and will need to step up his pace if he intends to pursue his career mark of 39.
Sat. Oct 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price made 34 saves in a 3-1 win over the Rangers on Saturday night.
Impact: He's near the top of the league when it comes to wins, but he needs to step up his game in terms of goals-against average and save percentage. This game will help that for sure. Those categories should stabilize soon enough. No worries.
Fri. Oct 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price will start in the crease Saturday against the Rangers, the Canadiens' official site reports.
Impact: Price started off the season slow, but has gotten it together recently and stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced Tuesday against the Red Wings. He will look to keep lowering his 2.96 GAA Saturday.
Thu. Oct 23, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Tinordi has moved ahead of Nathan Beaulieu for the sixth spot on defense, the Montreal Gazette reports. Beaulieu had opened the season in that spot, but Tinordi has played the last five games.
Impact: His spot as a top-six blue-liner was confirmed Wednesday when the Canadiens sent Beaulieu down to Hamilton of the American Hockey League for some ice time. Tinordi had a wild and unbridled preseason, something head coach Michel Therrien does not want in young defensemen looking for a roster spot, but he's played with composure and maturity in his most recent stretch.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | STATS
News: Plekanec registered his fourth assist of the season in a win over Detroit on Tuesday.
Impact: Plekanec has yet to score since tallying four goals in his first three games, though he still has three assists in his four games since then.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Beaulieu was assigned to AHL Hamilton on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Beaulieu will stay with Hamilton until Sunday, when he'll rejoin the Canadiens in Edmonton. The 21-year-old has been a healthy scratch for the Habs' last three games, so the demotion looks to be just an excuse for the organization to find him some ice time.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bournival was assigned to AHL Hamilton on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Bournival will stay with Hamilton until Sunday, when he'll rejoin the Canadiens in Edmonton. The 22-year-old has been a healthy scratch for all seven of the Habs' games thus far, so the demotion looks to be just an excuse for the organization to find him some ice time.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price stopped 27 of 28 shots in Tuesday night's 2-1 win over the Red Wings. It was his fifth win in six starts.
Impact: Price has weathered a shaky start to the season thanks largely to the Canadiens' offense bailing him out. After two solid Price-like performances, his GAA is now below 3.00 (2.96) to go with a save percentage of .902.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Desharnais scored in overtime to seal Tuesday night's 2-1 win over the Red Wings. It was the first goal of the season for Montreal's top-line center.
Impact: Aside from a big night against the Bruins last week, the first line has been relatively quiet to start the season. That'll change. Desharnais, Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher will be team scoring leaders before the season is done.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Galchenyuk scored late in regulation in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win against Detroit. The streaking Galchenyuk has goals in two consecutive games and at least one point in six of his first seven.
Impact: The kid also doled out three hits and used his physicality in the crease to slip one by the Wings' Jimmy Howard, who played well in the loss. Galchenyuk has been noticeably more physical this season, which perhaps has contributed to his increased scoring production.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Weise was inserted into the active lineup for Tuesday night's game against Detroit, playing right wing on the third line in place of rookie Jiri Sekac.
Impact: Weise had three shots on goal and a team-high six hits in 13:14 of ice time. The third line were a combined minus-17 with one goal through the first six games, so head coach Michel Therrien thought a change was needed.
Wed. Oct 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Sekac was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against Detroit. Dale Weise -- a healthy scratch three times in the first six games himself -- took his spot in the lineup.
Impact: The third line has been the laggard in Montreal's hot start to the season, so head coach Michel Therrien changed it up by inserting Weise on a line with Rene Bourque and Lars Eller.
Tue. Oct 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Red Wings, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Price has been a little lucky this season, winning four of his five starts despite owning a 3.38 GAA -- the 38th best mark in the league. He will likely need to be sharp to pick up the victory Tuesday with the Canadiens taking on a Red Wings team that has given up just 1.40 goals per game through five contests.
Tue. Oct 21, 2014 | RotoWire
News: The Canadiens have recalled Bournival from Hamilton of the American Hockey League, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Impact: Bournival opened the season in Montreal, but was a regular healthy scratch, so he was sent to the AHL to get some playing time. He scored a goal in two games with the Bulldogs. Bournival rotated in on the fourth line during Monday's practice, and it is not known whether he'll suit up Tuesday night against Detroit.
Sun. Oct 19, 2014 | STATS
News: Price made 32 saves in Montreal's 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Impact: Price has won four of five starts but his 3.38 GAA is not good.
Sun. Oct 19, 2014 | STATS
News: Galchenyuk had a goal and an assist in Montreal's 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Impact: Galchenyuk has six points in six games.
Sun. Oct 19, 2014 | STATS
News: Subban scored twice in Montreal's 3-2 victory Saturday night.
Impact: Subban ended a four-game goalless drought.
Oct 19, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Eller had an assist, his first point of the season, in Saturday night's 3-2 win over Colorado.
Impact: Eller, who signed a four-year deal in the offseason, is off to a slow start. Through six games, he's gone minus-6. His line -- Montreal's third grouping, which includes Rene Bourque and Jiri Sekac -- has produced three points (one goal, two assists) and is minus-17.
Oct 19, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price stopped 32 of 34 shots in Saturday night's 3-2 win over the Avalanche.
Impact: The two goals represent the fewest Price has allowed in five starts. He entered the game with a 3.75 GAA and .874 save percentage, so this is quite an improvement.
Sat. Oct 18, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Galchenyuk picked up two points -- a goal and an assist -- in Saturday's win over Colorado. He now has at least one point in five of six games this season and six points (two goals, four assists) in that span.
Impact: Very quietly, Galchenyuk is starting to show that he really was the guy who should have been picked first overall in 2012. This is going to be a big year for the talented winger.
Sat. Oct 18, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Subban scored twice Saturday to lift the Canadiens to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche. The first one came on the power play; the second was the game-winner.
Impact: He also picked up another minor penalty and we're not all that happy with that. He has 14 PIMs in just six games and that would put him on a path toward a massive career increase in that category. He's more valuable on the ice than in the box, so we'll keep an eye on this one. Hopefully it's just an early-season anomaly.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | STATS
News: Pacioretty had a goal and two assists in a 6-4 win over Boston on Thursday night.
Impact: Pacrioretty had one goal in his first four games this season. He has seven points (one goal, six assists) in six career games against Montreal's next opponent, Colorado, and had two assists in a 6-3 win March 18.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | STATS
News: Gallagher had two goals and an assist in a 6-4 win over Boston on Thursday night.
Impact: Gallagher has a team-best five points for Montreal (three goals, two assists) in the last three games.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | STATS
News: Plekanec had a pair of assists in a 6-4 win over Boston on Thursday night.
Impact: Plekanec has a team-best seven points (four goals, three assists) in the first five games this season.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | STATS
News: Parenteau scored a pair of goals, including the tiebreaker late in the second period, in a 6-4 win over Boston on Thursday night.
Impact: Parenteau had three assists in his first four games with Montreal.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price will be in goal Saturday against the Avalanche, Marc Antoine Godin of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Impact: Price will have the luxury of matching up against an Avalanche team missing both of its top two goalies, with Semyon Varlamov (groin) and Reto Berra (neck) both unexpected to be available. With a 3.75 GAA and .874 over his four starts, Price has been less than stellar this season, but he still carries a 3-1 record thanks to some timely offense from his mates.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Emelin dished out two assists in Thursday's victory over the Bruins.
Impact: After missing the previous two games with an upper-body ailment, Emelin looked to be at full health Thursday night, turning in one of his more active performances of the season, In addition to the two helpers, Emelin finished with two shots on goal, two penalty minutes, four hits and three blocked shots over his 21:26 of action.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Galchenyuk had an assist, two blocked shots and five hits in Thursday night's win over the Bruins. He has a point in four of the first five games and is tied for the team lead with 14 hits.
Impact: Leading the team in hits is uncharacteristic of Galchenyuk, but he's being rewarded with good minutes. He's averaging 16:41 through five games, a two-minute plus increase over last season's ice-time average.
Fri. Oct 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Sekac scored his first NHL goal in Thursday night's win over the Bruins.
Impact: It's taking some time for Sekac to get comfortable in the NHL. He didn't have a shot in his first three games and was a minus-2 while playing less than 10 minutes in the fourth. He's skating on the third line now, which had a good game Thursday, but the playing time could be an issue.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Desharnais contributed a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Thursday's victory over Boston, ending a three-game streak without a point.
Impact: Desharnais hadn't been on the scoresheet over the last three games since notching an assist in the opener against Toronto, so this was a much-needed performance for his fantasy owners. He's a talented playmaker skating alongside skilled finishers in Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher, so Desharnais should produce more steadily going forward.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Parenteau scored two goals Thursday in a win over Boston, though the second was an empty-netter.
Impact: They were Parenteau's first two goals of the year, but he's actually on a point-per-game pace early on here, with the two tallies and three helpers in five contests. Parenteau should keep seeing good offensive opportunities in Montreal, so he's a solid fantasy roll.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Plekanec grabbed two helpers in Thursday's win over the Bruins.
Impact: After opening the season on a three-game goal streak, Plekanec had a scoreless game, then immediately bounced back by notching these two assists. One of them came on an empty-netter, but that's alright -- they all count on the ol' stat line.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Pacioretty scored a goal, provided two assists, went plus-2 and took a minor penalty in Thursday's win over the Bruins.
Impact: Pacioretty had picked up just a lonely goal over the first four games of the season and had gone without a point in three straight, but he fixed his season line in a hurry on Thursday. It's reasonable to expect a point total in the high 50s or low 60s from Pacioretty again this year.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Gallagher scored two goals and added a power-play assist in Thursday's win over Boston.
Impact: That's points in three straight for Gallagher as he takes aim at building on last season's 41-point output. It'd be nice to see him get a little more ice time, though, as the lack of heavy minutes will keep Gallagher from piling up huge point totals often. On the flip side, it'll also help keep the undersized winger healthy.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price was tagged for four goals on 29 shots Thursday against the Bruins, but his teammates supported him to a 6-4 win.
Impact: Price is off to an odd start to the year, as he's been far from sharp -- 14 goals and an .874 save mark in four games -- and yet he's been rewarded with three wins. Expect the 27-year-old to get his game together soon, and expect the Montreal offense to remain supportive.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Price will be in the net Thursday against the Bruins.
Impact: Price is looking to rebound after a rough showing Monday against the Bolts, in which he allowed four goals on 19 shots before he was removed after two periods. The Bruins have struggled to find the net in the early stages of the season, but still represent an imposing adversary for Price and the Habs.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bouillon signed with Ambri-Piotta-NLA of Switzerland on Wednesday, TSN reports.
Impact: The soon-to-be-39-year-old Bouillon figures to end his playing career in Europe after the Canadiens released him from his training camp tryout in October. Bouillon tallied two goals and six points over 52 games with the Habs last season.
Thu. Oct 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Emelin (lower body) will play in Thursday's game against the Bruins, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Emelin missed the Canadiens' last two games, but he will return to action Thursday night. Emelin, who tallied two assists in two games earlier this season, figures to reclaim his spot alongside P.K. Subban as part of the Canadiens' top defensive pairing.
Tue. Oct 14, 2014 | STATS
News: Price was pulled in Monday's 7-1 loss to Tampa Bay after allowing four goals on 23 shots through two periods
Impact: Price is 2-1-0 this season but has allowed a combined 10 goals in the three games. He could face another opponent from this past postseason, Boston, on Thursday. Price posted a 2.04 goals-against average in the seven-game Eastern Conference semifinal series and gave up one goal in the final two contests.
Sun. Oct 12, 2014 | STATS
