News: Gordon is expected to serve as the Oilers' No. 3 center to begin the season, ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Impact: Though filling the hole at the second-line center spot is the more pressing need for the Oilers, it appears that rookie Leon Draisaitl or Mark Arcobello will be given the opportunity to do so before Gordon does. Gordon is serviceable two-way depth center for the Oilers, but he doesn't offer enough offensive upside to keep up with the likes of David Perron and Nail Yakupov on the wings. Look for Gordon to finish with another season where he hovers around the 20-point mark.

News: Westgarth signed a professional tryout with the Oilers and will join the team for training camp, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.
Impact: Westgarth is nothing more than a checking-line pugilist, giving him value primarily in leagues that count penalty minutes. He'll first have to impress the Oilers in training camp before he gets the opportunity to reprise his enforcer role.

News: Yakupov will wear number 10 this coming season instead of 64, the number he broke into the league with, reports the Edmonton Sun.
Impact: Shawn Horcoff wore number 10 last season, but said Yakupov could take it this season. Yakupov is looking to change things up and shake off a horrible sophomore campaign (24 points in 63 games and a minus-33 rating). He grew up wearing 10, and hey -- it's not like hockey players are superstitious or anything. His game will improve this season, but it won't be because of the number.

News: Draisaitl has spent his summer bulking up, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Impact: Edmonton's first round pick in this past June's draft has his sights set on making the team and realizes to do so he needed to add size and strength. Well he has done so as he now checks in at six-foot-two and 215 pounds. One of the reasons the Oilers were so high on Draisaitl was because they wanted some bigger talented players. If he has a good camp he could end up as the second line center to start the season.

News: Gazdic (shoulder) has begun skating but is not yet ready for contact, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Impact: Gazdic's only value in fantasy leagues is his willingness to drop the gloves. He was tied for third in the league last season with 15 fights and has quickly become one of the more feared heavyweights in the game. He is expected to be ready to play at some point during training camp.

News: Perron still isn't fully recovered from the hip injury he suffered last season, according to the Oilers' official site.
Impact: Perron admitted Monday that he has had to deal with the injury all summer and it has changed how he would normally prepare for a season. He hasn't been able to do as much lower-body work as he would like, but still expects to be ready for the start of training camp.
