News: Sarich is recovering in a Calgary hospital after a cycling accident this week. The 35-year-old Sarich, who is a free agent, said it's been ''a rough couple of days and I'm grateful for the support I've been receiving.'' There's no timeline for his recovery.
Impact: Sarich has spent a majority of his 15-year NHL career with the Calgary Flames and Tampa Bay Lightning. He suited up last season for Colorado, helping the Avalanche make the postseason for the first time since 2010.

News: The Colorado Avalanche have avoided arbitration with O'Reilly by signing the versatile forward to a two-year deal.
Impact: O'Reilly led the team with a career-high 28 goals last season and won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to a player who best exemplifies gentlemanly conduct. He also had six game-winners as the Avalanche advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2009-10 under first-year coach Patrick Roy.

News: O'Reilly agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday to avoid arbitration, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Impact: The Avs and O'Reilly had been far apart on a new deal in recent weeks, but with the prospect of an arbitration hearing closing in, both sides were motivated to strike a quick deal. Still, O'Reilly has been angling for a long-term deal with the Avs for quite some time, to no avail, so he could be motivated to join another organization when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2016.

News: Stollery re-signed Wednesday with the Avalanche on a one-year, two-way contract, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Stollery saw the bulk of his duties last season at AHL Lake Erie, where he mustered seven goals and 23 assists over 68 games. He'll get the opportunity to compete for a job on the Avs' blue line in training camp, but even if he makes the team, his fantasy upside will be limited by third-pairing minutes.

News: Elliott signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Avalanche on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Impact: Elliott appeared in only one game for the Avalanche last season. His 26 points and minus-17 rating over 60 games at AHL Lake Erie weren't overly impressive, and he's probably on the outside looking in for an opening-night roster spot with the parent club.

News: Varlamov suffered a minor ankle injury Tuesday, the Denver Post reports.
Impact: Varlamov suffered the injury while at the Francois Allaire camp in Switzerland, but isn't expected to miss much time. The Avs released a statement calling the injury "very minor," so the netminder's status going into next season shouldn't be affected.

News: O'Reilly and the Avalanche appear destined for arbitration, reports the Denver Post.
Impact: The two sides haven't had a substantive discussion on a new deal since the Avs filed for arbitration last month. The team made the move to try to save itself some cash, but O'Reilly and his agent aren't happy. Then again, this same scenario happened the last time they tried to ink a deal. This probably means a short-term deal for the center and then he'll walk away in two years when he is eligible to be a UFA. This could be ugly ... again.
