Patrick Sharp - #10 - Left Wing - 6'1" - 199lbs
Tue. Sep 30, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Sharp is penciled in to serve as the Blackhawks' top line left wing, CSNChicago.com's Tracey Myers reports.
Impact: Though he's coming off a career-best season in which he netted 34 goals and 78 points, Sharp's stock heading into the upcoming campaign seems to be trending downward nonetheless, after he lost out on ice time to Brandon Saad in the playoffs and was dogged by trade rumors over the summer. While the Blackhawks' window to deal him has probably closed at this point, Sharp probably doesn't have much more room for improvement as he enters his age-33 season. He'll still be a potent scorer and deliver an excellent plus/minus rating for one of hockey's most talent teams; just don't overpay for last season's numbers.
Pierre-Cedric Labrie - #22 - Left Wing - 6'3" - 234lbs
News: Labrie was waived by the Blackhawks on Monday, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Labrie stood little chance of breaking camp with the Blackhawks, who boast considerable depth, even on the checking line. Expect Labrie to pass through waivers and open the season with AHL Rockford.
Cody Bass - #36 - Center - 6'0" - 211lbs
News: Bass was waived by the Blackhawks on Monday, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Bass stood little chance of breaking camp with the Blackhawks, who boast considerable depth even on the checking line. Expect Bass to pass through waivers and open the season with AHL Rockford.
Phillip Danault - #24 - Center - 6'0" - 181lbs
News: Danault, who was Chicago's first round pick back in 2011, was sent down to Rockford of the AHL on Saturday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: The Blackhawks are looking for him to develop more offense in his second season at Rockford. Last season, the 21-year-old center registered six goals and 20 helpers in 72 games.
Stephen Johns - #34 - Defense - 6'3" - 215lbs
News: Johns was sent down by the Blackhawks to Rockford of the AHL on Saturday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: Johns, who was the Blackhawks' 2010 second-round draft pick (60th overall), skated for a couple of games for Rockford last season after finishing his career at the University of Notre Dame. The defenseman was in eight games at Rockford and tallied a goal and four assists. He'll most likely see full-time work at Rockford this season.
Brandon Mashinter - #53 - Left Wing - 6'4" - 235lbs
News: Mashinter has a good chance of making the Blackhawks' opening night roster as the team looks for enforcer to replace Brandon Bollig, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: Bollig was traded during the summer to Calgary and Blackhawks' coach Joel Quenneville wants to still have that physical, tough-guy element on the team. Quenneville has liked Mashinter's physical game so far during the preseason. He was acquired by the Hawks from Rangers last December.
Garret Ross - #61 - Left Wing - 6'0" - 180lbs
News: Ross was sent down by the Blackhawks to Rockford of the AHL on Monday, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: The 22-year-old forward actually showed a little something in terms of scoring. He lit the lamp twice in the four exhibition games for Chicago. He played his first full professional season last season for Rockford, 15 goals and 19 assists in 74 games.
Klas Dahlbeck - #44 - Defense - 6'2" - 194lbs
News: Dahlbeck was sent by the Blackhawks to Rockford of the AHL on Monday morning, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: This will be the third season in a row that Dahlbeck starts with Rockford. He had his best season at Rockford last season with 10 goals and 25 assists in 75 games and a plus-21.
Scott Darling - #33 - Goaltender - 6'6" - 208lbs
News: Darling, who just a few hours ago had shut out the Oilers on Sunday, was sent by the Blackhawks to Rockford of the AHL on Monday morning, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: Darling had looked pretty good against Edmonton and made 19 saves. He will try to show in Rockford that he deserves to be with the Blackhawks. Michael Leighton is expected to be joining him so there might be a battle for net time with the IceHogs.
News: Versteeg, who missed the first three exhibition games because of the flu, was on the ice on Sunday in the 5-0 exhibition victory over the Oilers, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Versteeg looked good with a goal and an assist against Edmonton. The Blackhawks are looking for more from Versteeg in 2014-15 after returning to the team last season. He had 12 goals and 24 assists in 81 games between Florida and Chicago for the 2013-14 season.
Scott Darling - #33 - Goaltender - 6'6" - 208lbs
News: Darling looked good in goal for the Blackhawks in saving 19 shots on goal and collecting a 5-0 shutout against the Oilers on Sunday in an exhibition game, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Darling was helped on a couple of shots that hit the post, but he was still impressive. It still was the Oilers and Darling will have to show a lot more if he wants to replace Antti Raanta as the back-up goalie to Corey Crawford. Veteran goalie Michael Leighton is expected to start at Rockford of the AHL, but Darling's play might give him more starts at Rockford.
News: Teravainen, who missed the first three exhibition games with an upper-body injury, was on the ice Sunday and scored his first goal in a Blackhawks' uniform in the 5-0 win over Edmonton, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Despite the goal Teravainen is expected to be sent down to Rockford of the AHL, but he might be one of the last cuts. He could stick with the Hawks if one of the centers is injured, but the plan is to get as much ice time as possible for the Blackhawks' top prospect.
News: Nordstrom was assigned to AHL Rockford on Monday, the Daily Herald reports.
Impact: For a while during camp, Nordstrom looked like he had a chance at making the club as a fourth liner, but the Blackhawks were evidently satisfied with the depth they already had there. Nordstrom, 22, posted 17 goals and 16 assists over 58 games with Rockford last season.
Adam Clendening - #6 - Defense - 5'11" - 187lbs
News: Clendening was assigned to AHL Rockford on Monday, the Daily Herald reports.
Impact: Clendening was one of six casualties as the Blackhawks trimmed their training camp roster to 30 players. The 21-year-old showcased his offensive talents with 12 goals and 59 points in 74 games at Rockford last season, but it will probably take an injury or two for him to get a lengthy look with the parent club in 2014-15.
Marian Hossa - #81 - Right Wing - 6'1" - 210lbs
News: Hossa is dealing with a minor lower body injury, ESPN Chicago reports.
Impact: Hossa is getting to that point in his career where he's going to be dealing with some nagging injuries, so it sounds like the Hawks are going to play it extra safe with him to try to keep him healthy. He is expected to return to practice Tuesday, and should be considered ready to go for the beginning of the regular season barring any setbacks.
Cam Barker - #17 - Defense - 6'3" - 223lbs
News: Barker, who was hoping to make a return to the NHL this season, was cut from the Blackhawks camp on Friday.
Impact: He was there on a tryout, but the Hawks' blue line is relatively solid. He spent last season in the KHL and may be headed back.
Dillon Fournier - #45 - Defense - 6'2" - 173lbs
News: Fournier was sent down by the Blackhawks to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on Friday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: This will be the first taste of professional hockey for the Blackhawks' second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He turned 20 in June. Fournier spent the last three seasons in the QMJHL for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Mathieu Brisebois - #63 - Defense - 5'11" - 190lbs
News: Brisebois was sent down by the Blackhawks to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on Friday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: The 22-year-old defenseman, who was acquired with David Rundblad from Phoenix last March, will most likely spend most of this season at Rockford. Between Portland and Rockford, both in the AHL, he had three goals and seven assists in 41 games along with 49 penalty minutes.
Drew LeBlanc - #14 - Center - 6'0" - 195lbs
News: LeBlanc was sent down by the Blackhawks to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on Friday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: LeBlanc, who was the Hobey Baker Award winner in 2013, will try to do a better job at Rockford this season. He had a cup of coffee with the Blackhawks in 2012-13 season with two games and then collected seven goals and 15 assists in 76 games for Rockford last season.
Mark McNeill - #15 - Right Wing - 6'1" - 211lbs
News: McNeill was sent to Rockford of the AHL on Friday, NBC Chicago reports.
Impact: McNeill was expected to be headed to Rockford coming into camp. There are just too many centers in front of him. He might get a call to the Hawks during the season, but it would have to take a couple of injuries to do that. In his first full season at Rockford, McNeill registered 18 goals and 19 assists in 76 games.
News: Teravainen (upper body) is expected to play Sunday, Scott Powers of ESPN.com reports
Impact: Teravainen has yet to play this preseason, so this is good news for his fantasy value. He has been day-to-day after taking a big hit, but looks ready to go for Sunday.
Michael Leighton - #49 - Goaltender - 6'3" - 186lbs
News: Leighton did not entirely help his cause if he wants to beat out Antti Raanta as the Blackhawks' backup goalie as he saved 17 of 19 shots on goal on Thursday in the 3-2 loss to Detroit.
Impact: Leighton will need to show more if he wants the backup spot. He is more than likely ticketed to be the starting goalie for Rockford of the AHL. Leighton will probably be in goal on Sunday against Edmonton.
Antti Raanta - #31 - Goaltender - 6'0" - 182lbs
News: Raanta saved 21 of 22 shots on goal in Thursday's exhibition game, a 3-2 loss in Detroit.
Impact: Raanta played half the game and Michael Leighton played the final half of the contest in the debut of both goalies in the preseason. Leighton saved 17 of 19 shots on goal. Despite the signing of the veteran Leighton, Raanta is still the favorite to back up Corey Crawford.
News: Nordstrom (upper body) returned to practice Thursday, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Impact: Nordstrom's upper-body ailment only sidelined him for a few days. He could be available for Thursday's exhibition against the Red Wings, but if not, he should receive clearance for a return to game action in the coming days.
News: Versteeg (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: Versteeg had missed Wednesday's session with the flu, but doesn't look as though he'll face any further limitations in training camp.
Ryan Hartman - #38 - Right Wing - 5'11" - 181lbs
News: Coach Joel Quenneville said Hartman will be out about a week with a lower-body injury, Tracey Myers of the CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: The injury effectively quashes any slight chance Hartman may have had at breaking camp with the Blackhawks. After tearing up the OHL over the last two seasons, the 20-year-old Hartman is set to play a full campaign at AHL Rockford in 2014-15.
News: Teravainen (upper body) will not play in Thursday's exhibition against the Red Wings, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Teravainen was able to return to practice Wednesday after missing the previous three days of activity due to the injury, which he obtained during a scrimmage last Saturday. The Blackhawks seem to be taking precaution with their prized 20-year-old prospect in holding him out Thursday, but it shouldn't be long before he slots back in for regular duty in preseason contests.
News: Versteeg is sick with the flu and will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Red Wings, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact: Coach Joel Quenneville noted that he doesn't expect Versteeg to miss much practice time as a result of the illness, giving him plenty of time to get conditioning work in for the start of the regular season. Versteeg's role is in some question entering the season, as his poor showing in the playoffs has him fighting with a slew of players for a bottom-six role.
Michael Leighton - #49 - Goaltender - 6'3" - 186lbs
News: Leighton will split time with Antti Raanta in goal for Chicago on Thursday in the exhibition game against the Red Wings, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: Leighton, who was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in 1999, re-signed with the club during the summer after stints with several teams in the US and the KHL. Ironically, he was in goal for the Flyers and gave up the game-winning goal to Patrick Kane that handed the Blackhawks the 2010 Stanley Cup. Leighton is expected to start at Rockford of the AHL, but could get time with the Blackhawks if Raanta or Corey Crawford are injured.
Antti Raanta - #31 - Goaltender - 6'0" - 182lbs
News: Raanta will split time with Michael Leighton in goal in Chicago's exhibition game against the Red Wings on Thursday, CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: Raanta is pretty much firmly entrenched as the backup to Corey Crawford. Leighton is expected to start for Rockford of the AHL. Raanta had a 13-5-4 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and .897 save percentage in 25 games for the Blackhawks during the 2013-14 season.
Jonathan Toews - #19 - Center - 6'2" - 208lbs
News: Toews started out where he left off by scoring the game-winning goal, in Tuesday's preseason opener against Detroit.
Impact: Toews tallied 28 goals and 40 assists last season. If all goes well, he could meet or surpass his best season, 2010-11, where he collected 32 goals and 44 assists. Ironically, Kane joined Toews in scoring the two goals against the Red Wings. Both signed eight-year extensions during the summer with price tags of $10.5 million a year.
News: Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Tuesday that Nordstrom is nursing an upper-body injury, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Impact: The Blackhawks haven't provided any word on the severity of Nordstrom's ailment, making it unknown when he might return to the ice. Nordstrom is battling for a bottom-six role with the Blackhawks, but it's more likely he opens the season at AHL Rockford.
Patrick Kane - #88 - Right Wing - 5'11" - 181lbs
News: Kane showed that there is no rust in his legs when he scored in the Blackhawks' first exhibition game of the season Tuesday over the Red Wings.
Impact: Kane scored on a breakaway with the help of a pass from newly acquired center Brad Richards. He will be looking to show this season that he is worth the eight-year contract extension he signed this summer (AAV $10.5M). Kane had 29 goals and 40 assists last season in 69 games. He'll be looking to top his 2009-10 season where he registered his best numbers -- 30 goals and 58 assists in 82 games.
Mon. Sep 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Teravainen was held out of Monday's preseason opener as a precaution due to an upper-body injury he sustained over the weekend, ESPN Chicago reports.
Impact: Teravainen was leveled on a check from defenseman Cam Barker in Saturday's practice, resulting in him missing Sunday's scrimmages. Coach Joel Quenneville dismissed the injury as anything serious, and suggested Teravainen would be able to play in Tuesday's exhibition match. The 20-year-old is considered among the best prospects in hockey, but Chicago's considerable depth on the wings probably means he won't remain with the big club for good until 2015-16.
Johnny Oduya - #27 - Defense - 6'0" - 190lbs
Thu. Sep 18, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Oduya (broken foot) has been cleared for full activity during training camp, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Impact: Oduya suffered the broken foot in the Blackhawks' Game 7 loss to the Kings in the Western Conference Finals after being hit with a shot. A summer of rest allowed the foot to heal without too many complications, and he should be on track to reprise his role on the second pairing with Niklas Hjalmarsson when the new season begins.
