News: Diaz has collected three assists in four appearances for the Flames during exhibition play.
Impact: Diaz, who signed a professional tryout offer with the Flames prior to camp, has turned heads with his offensive production thus far in camp, putting himself in the conversation for a 23-man roster spot. The 28-year-old bounced between three different organizations last season, but has shown some offensive upside at times during his career. If he ends up making the roster, Diaz could be utilized as a third-pairing player.

News: Granlund is currently going through the NHL's concussion protocol, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Impact: Granlund suffered the injury Friday and has been held out since. It remains to be seen when he will play next, but he will need to be cleared to do so.

News: Poirier was assigned to AHL Adirondack on Monday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Impact: One of the Flames' better prospects, Poirier is set to begin his first full season as a pro, after a successful junior career for Gatineau of the QMJHL. The 19-year-old is probably another year or two away from contributing with the Flames on a regular basis.

News: Cundari was waived by the Flames on Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Impact: Cundari was an early casualty for the Flames, who cut their roster to 40 players Monday. It's expected that the 24-year-old, who appeared in four games with the NHL club last season, will pass through waivers unclaimed and open 2014-15 in the minors.

News: Ortio stopped 13 shots in the third period Sunday to hold a 2-1 preseason win over Colorado.
Impact: Ortio should be the starting goalie in the AHL to start 2014-15, as Jonas Hiller and Karri Ramo have the two NHL spots all but wrapped up. He has the skills to be an NHL goalie, but may have to wait a year or two to get his chance.
Mon. Sep 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Ramo stopped 22 of 23 shots Sunday in his first action since a hip injury over the summer.
Impact: Ramo got the 2-1 victory for two periods of solid play. The Finn improved over the second half of 2013-14 and will fight Jonas Hiller for the No. 1 job in what is likely to be a timeshare to start the season.
Mon. Sep 29, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Ferland scored a pair of goals to help Calgary past Colorado 2-1 in preseason play on Sunday.
Impact: Ferland looked stellar against a Colorado team playing most of its starting lines. He has gone through off the ice trouble and season-ending injuries the past few years but appears to be focused and in excellent shape. He's a power forward of the ilk that Calgary prefers, and has a chance at making the team if he continues playing this way.

News: Smid has been recovering from a serious tooth infection and isn't practicing at full strength, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Impact: The Flames are playing it safe with Smid for now, but suffice to say, the team expects him to be ready to go for the regular season. Smid is valued for the dependability he brings on defense, but aside from specialty leagues that count hits and blocks, he's unlikely to carry much fantasy value.

News: Baertschi was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's exhibition game due to an illness, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports.
Impact: Baertschi, who is competing for a spot on the Flames' opening night roster, should be considered day-to-day with the illness.

News: Backlund is still struggling with an abdominal strain, but coach Bob Hartley is aiming for him to play in the season opener, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Backlund is a top-two center for Calgary, so the Flames would like to get him in the lineup to start the season on the right foot. Backlund is coming off a career-high 39-point campaign.
Sep 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Hanowski was a casualty of the first round of cuts Saturday, as he was sent down to the AHL, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Hanowski saw some extended time in Calgary in 2013-14, tallying two points in 11 games. He will likely see a little time with the Flames this year, but may soon be passed by the bevy of talented forward prospects in the organization.
Sep 28, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Agostino was sent down to AHL Glens Falls in the first round of cuts by the Flames on Saturday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Agostino is still fresh out of a four-year career at Yale, so the Flames feel he would be better served getting some minor-league experience.

News: Granlund will miss Sunday's preseason game with a suspected concussion, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Granlund left Friday's game with an injury which the team now suspects is a concussion. The good news is that Granlund's shoulder did not flare back up, but obviously a concussion is never good. There's no timetable for his return at this point, but the center was a good candidate to make the team out of camp before suffering the injury.
Sat. Sep 27, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Granlund (undisclosed) left in the second period of Friday's preseason game and did not return, the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Granlund is one of the brighter prospects the Flames have, as he was one of the top AHL players in Abbotsford last year and also had three points in seven games with Calgary. He struggled with a shoulder injury at the end of last season, so hopefully the injury is not to that shoulder again.
Fri. Sep 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Monahan scored the Flames' lone goal in a 3-1 preseason loss to the Canucks on Thursday.
Impact: Monahan is looking to improve on an impressive rookie campaign in which he scored 22 goals. It remains to be seen which line Monahan will start on, but it's hard to believe he wouldn't be a top-six forward before too long.
Fri. Sep 26, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bennett led the Flames with seven shots on goal in a 3-1 preseason loss to Vancouver on Thursday.
Impact: Coach Bob Hartley called Bennett the team's best forward on the ice Thursday, as he impressed coaches with his speed and movement with the puck. While he didn't score, and only has an outside shot to make the team, Bennett certainly is making a stellar first impression in Calgary.
Thu. Sep 25, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bennett (groin) appears set to play his first preseason game Thursday against the Ducks, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Impact: Bennett worked with the main group during morning skate and appears to have put the groin injury that dogged him in the early stages of camp behind him. The odds are against the No. 4 overall draft pick from cracking the NHL roster out of training camp, but now that he's healthy, Bennett will at least have the opportunity to earn his way onto the parent club.
Wed. Sep 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Raymond is dealing with a lower-body injury and will not play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Coyotes, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Impact: Raymond skated on his own earlier in the day Wednesday, but decided that it was a wise move to opt out of the game while he was running at less than 100 percent. Unless the Flames indicate otherwise in the coming days, the injury wouldn't seem to be anything too serious at this time.
Wed. Sep 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Wotherspoon (shoulder) began practicing on his own Wednesday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Impact: Although Wotherspoon expects to be ready for full practices with the Flames within the next week, it sounds like the team isn't expecting him to return to game action for a little while longer. Wotherspoon is still behind the curve after he was sidelined for most of the summer following April shoulder surgery, which will likely result in him opening the season at the AHL level. If the 21-year-old proves healthy and effective with Abbotsford, it might not take long for him to earn his way back to the parent club.
Wed. Sep 24, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Ramo (hip) was on the ice for an hour and a half Tuesday and is nearly 100 percent, the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Ramo has been dealing with a nagging hip injury all summer but seems to be feeling better. He needs to get on the ice soon, as he will be in an uphill battle for the No. 1 goalie position with Jonas Hiller. He should start a preseason game in the near future.
Mon. Sep 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Backlund's abdominal strain is worse than originally thought, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Backlund was originally expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, but head coach Bob Hartley stated Monday that he's worried about Backlund's status. The team hasn't given any sort of timetable for the center's return, so keep an eye out for an update in the next few days.
Mon. Sep 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bennett (groin) practiced in a non-contact jersey Monday, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Bennett was the fourth overall pick in the 2014 Draft, and is still just 18 years old. He's not expected to make the roster out of camp, but if he can get healthy for the end of camp, it will give fantasy owners a good glimpse at the young center for the future.
Mon. Sep 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Byron is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Impact: Unless more information comes out about the nature of Byron's injury, it's safe to assume that he'll be ready in time for the start of the regular season. The center posted seven goals and 14 assists in 47 games with the Flames last season.
Mon. Sep 22, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Setoguchi is day-to-day with a lower body injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Impact: There's no word on the nature of Setoguchi's injury, but the fact that the team is calling him day-to-day is a good sign that he'll be ready to suit up for the start of the regular season.
Sat. Sep 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bennett (groin) won't play in Sunday's preseason game against the Oilers, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Bennett hasn't participated in training camp thus far due to the groin injury, and it appears it will hold him out of the first preseason game as well. He is a long shot at making the roster, but he's only 18 and could use some seasoning in the minors and could add on some bulk for the future.
Sat. Sep 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Potter is still a couple weeks away from being cleared for contact following shoulder surgery, the Calgary Herald reports.
Impact: Potter is hoping to nab one of the final blue line spots available in Calgary, as the first five spots are pretty much locked down. Potter played sparingly with Edmonton and Boston last season, but the Flames like his game.
Sat. Sep 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: After offseason shoulder surgery, Wotherspoon still has yet to receive medical clearance, the Calgary Sun reports.
Impact: Wotherspoon is one of the contenders for the final few defenseman spots, so he's hoping to get cleared soon so he can show what he can do. He had a couple of points in limited action last season but has shown a lot of potential in both the AHL and NHL.
Sat. Sep 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Backlund has been limited in his practice with an abdominal strain, according to the Calgary Sun.
Impact: Backlund should be fine for when the season starts, but be does have a history of being plagued with injuries. He's coming off a 39-point season, his best in the NHL so far.
Sat. Sep 20, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Bennett has yet to participate in training camp due to a groin injury, the Calgary Sun reports.
Impact: The fourth overall pick is a long shot to make the squad, as he is only 18 and could afford to add to his 176-pound frame, and this injury certainly doesn't help. Bennett has the potential to be a star in the NHL but may need a year or two in the minors to get some experience.
