News: Gagner (undisclosed) began practicing at right wing Sunday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Coach Dave Tippett is merely experimenting to see where Gagner -- who played center, his natural position, for the first week of camp -- fits best with his new team. Gagner was held out of Monday's preseason game vs. the Canucks as a precaution after he was banged up in last Friday's contest, but he should return to the ice for the remainder of the Coyotes' exhibition schedule.

News: Stone, who scored eight times last season, is in line for a top six pairing, but who he will be partnered with is unclear, according to the Arizona Republic's Sarah McLellan. He will also get a look for the Coyotes' second power play unit.
Impact: The Coyotes are playing with their defense pairings in training camp and pre-season games. If he gets some power play time, Stone's value will increase, but it's too early to read much into the team's plans at this point. Still, this is positive news for the 24 year-old.

News: Smith stopped 23 of 25 shots he faced in a pre-season win over the Canucks on Monday. He played all 60 minutes in the victory.
Impact: Smith appears to be fully recovered from an MCL injury suffered late last season. He is one of the keys to the Coyotes making it back to the playoffs after two straight years falling short.

News: McBain has been released from his professional tryout offer with the Coyotes, USA Today reports.
Impact: McBain was forced to settle for a PTO after interest was mild in the veteran blueliner during free agency. McBain was a regular skater for the Sabres last season with 69 appearances, but he'll likely struggle to find a squad desperate enough to give that much ice time in 2014-15.

News: Barch has been released from his professional tryout offer with the Coyotes.
Impact: The Coyotes auditioned several players for checking line roles in training camp, but Barch didn't do enough to warrant a spot on the team's 23-man roster. He'll likely turn his attention toward landing an AHL deal.

News: Kassian has been released from his professional tryout with the Coyotes, USA Today reports.
Impact: Kassian apparently didn't do enough to stand out during training camp, and last season's pathetic total of two points in 33 games with the Senators wasn't going to help him in his efforts to win a roster spot with Arizona. He may have to settle for an AHL deal before earning his way back to the NHL.

News: Coach Dave Tippett has been experimenting with using Yandle and Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the same defensive pairing during training camp, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Yandle worked on the left side and Ekman-Larsson handled the right in Saturday's team scrimmage, after the duo had spent the previous couple of days paired up during practices. The coaching staff is still in assessing whether or not the two can cut it defensively while working in tandem, but there's no disputing the offensive fireworks that could be harvested if the arrangement ends up panning out during the regular season. Both Yandle and Ekman-Larsson ranked in the top five among defensemen in shots on goals last season, and together, their creativity with the puck would provide a needed jolt to an attack that lacks top-flight forward talent. Yandle is probably set for a bump in scoring regardless after he posted a fluky 3.3 shooting percentage a season earlier, and a partnership with Ekman-Larsson at even strength and on the power-play could potentially push him toward a new career high.

News: Ekman-Larsson has been playing on a defensive pairing with Keith Yandle the last few days of training camp, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Though a left-handed shooter, Ekman-Larsson has been playing on the right side of the pairing as the Coyotes entertain the idea of uniting their top minute men. Because both Ekman-Larsson and Yandle profile as offensive-leaning defenseman, arranging the two together could result in some hairiness on the back end, but the duo might offset that with the boost they'd give to the team's attack. Moreover, pairing up the duo would allow them to sync up on the power play, bolstering that unit even further. The arrangement strictly remains in trial mode right now, but if it ends up materializing during the regular season, Ekman-Larsson could notice a surge in his scoring opportunities.

News: McMillan is not playing Monday due to a lower-body injury, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: The issue is reportedly not serious, so McMillan should be able to return to action at some point this week and is expected to be fully healthy for the regular season.

News: Visentin suffered a lower body injury during Sunday's training camp scrimmage.
Impact: Visentin was helped off of the ice, so it's possible the injury is something fairly serious, but it's too early to tell, as the report did not provide definitive details. Another update should be forthcoming once Visentin is evaluated by the team's medical staff.

News: The lower body injury Visentin sustained during Sunday's scrimmage is not as serious as it appeared, according to Coyotes' GM Don Maloney.
Impact: Visentin was helped off the ice by team personnel, but it appears he did not suffer an injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time. Still, the team is yet to provide a more definitive report, so consider Visentin day-to-day at this point.

News: Domi, who had a brilliant 93-point campaign for London in the OHL in 2013, is being looked to crack the Coyotes' lineup and add scoring, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.
Impact: Domi's offensive ability is not in question, but coach Dave Tippett will need to be assured that he can handle his defensive duties in order for Domi to get the kind of ice time he needs to reach his potential.
