Toronto Maple Leafs Gameday: Thoughts On Bruins/Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to end a losing skid tonight and gain standings momentum on the Boston Bruins.

Here are five thoughts for the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Boston Bruins tonight:

1) It’s a must-win. Considering the recent skid and how important two points are against a team you have games in hand on, this is a must win for the Leafs.

It will close the imaginary gap and increase the spread between Boston and Toronto in reality. The Leafs are three points back of Boston with five games in hand. That goes to one point back and five in hand after tonight with a win.

2) Forget about the last two games. Getting beat down 11-4 in two games is never fun, but this team has to forget about the negative things in the past. They are still scoring and as soon as the goaltenders plug the holes in the crease they’ll win games again.

3) Boston’s offense is weak, but they still have some power. Patrice Bergeron, who is nursing an injury, is expected to play and Brad Marchand is in the midst of his best offensive season ever. Containing those two players is the focus point of the Leafs defensive strategy.

4) Stable lines required. The line juggling of Mike Babcock is hopefully over after he returned the normal lines earlier today.

This is a good thing. The lines weren’t broke, so they didn’t need fixing. Stick to the plan because it’s worked out for the majority of the season. Oddly enough – or not so oddly – the Leafs biggest stretches of struggle were when Babcock put the lines in a blender.

5) Brad Marchand is a garbage human on the ice. The Leafs players need to have their heads on a swivel tonight. Marchand is a threat to anyone’s legs and there’s nothing Matt Martin can do about it while he’s riding the pine.

This is true, and he’s been making garbage plays like this a lot recently.
