The Predators and Lightning brawled after a nasty blindside hit

Published Dec. 9, 2016 12:24 p.m. ET

Monday night's Predators-Lightning game in Nashville devolved into nastiness in the final minutes thanks to a couple of big hits.

First, J.T. Brown leveled Roman Josi with a big hit behind the net. Josi was clearly upset about the hit, apparently feeling that he had been targeted with a headshot from Brown.

Later, as regulation winded down, Preds defenseman Ryan Ellis couldn't resist the opportunity to exact some revenge on Brown. Ellis went after the Lightning forward and delivered a pretty cheap hit away from the puck, which didn't sit well with Brown. He immediately began unloading punches on Ellis.

Though there wasn't a ton of action in the ensuing line brawl, both Ellis and Brown were ejected from the game with misconducts and may receive supplemental discipline from the league after their antics sent the game off the rails.
