Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson did not participate in Wednesday's morning skate and is not expected to be in the lineup for Game 4 of the team's opening-round playoff series against the Rangers.

Alfredsson sustained a concussion on a hit from Rangers rookie Carl Hagelin during Game 2 at Madison Square Garden Saturday. Hagelin received a three-game suspension.

Senators coach Paul MacLean said there was "no update" on Alfredsson, and that he is keeping his lineup options open.

The veteran Swede has scored 46 goals in 109 career playoff games, and tallied 59 points in 75 games this season.

Defenseman Matt Carkner will be back in the lineup for the crucial game in Ottawa after serving a one-game suspension for punching New York's Brian Boyle from behind during Saturday's raucous Game 2.

The Rangers regained the lead in the best-of-seven series with a 1-0 win in Game 3 Monday night behind 39 saves from goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
